Research on tied pub tenant views has been published by the Scottish Pubs Code Adjudicator on xx October2026. With the Scottish Pubs Code having commenced in full in summer 2025, this research aimed to improve understanding of tied pub tenants' awareness and engagement with both the Code and with the Adjudicator.
The research was carried out independently by Rocket Science, on an anonymised basis. Responses were gathered during August 2026 and the research report can be downloaded from this page.
Sarah Havlin, Scottish Pubs Code Adjudicator, said, "It's crucial that the rights available to tied pub tenants under the Code are working in practice and this research helps us to understand the picture across Scotland. It is encouraging to see broad recognition of the importance of Code rights, although there is plenty to be done to help improve tenants' awareness and confidence in these rights.
"The research also highlights the importance of effective advice, information and engagement. With our new website, I hope this is a positive step forward and I am exploring other new ways in which we can engage with the sector.
"I am grateful to everyone who responded to or helped to promote the survey. Research such as this greatly improves our understanding, and feedback is always welcome."
